Getting people to vote has always been a challenge and one that has not been effectively met. I have friends tell me that voting is a waste of time because their vote does not mean anything. How wrong they are.
The Danger of Delusions Threatening Our Democracy
You really love the Democrats. To you they can do no wrong. The truth is that the Democratic Party hates children. If Democrats can’t convince a woman to kill the baby in womb, the next step is convincing women to spay or neuter children or block their puberty. If that doesn’t work, the Democrats encourage children to be sex freaks. If that doesn’t work, Democrats are hell bent on shaming anyone trying to get married and have children in what used to be called a normal family.
Liz Cheney: Making America Great Again
A lot of my Democratic friends think Liz Cheney is a saint to be embraced by all Democrats and that she should join us. She shouldn’t. She is honest, cogent, even inspiring, but she is not a Democrat or some closet liberal. She is an honest Republican, sees Donald Trump for what he is, and is not afraid to say so. That distinguishes her from virtually every other Republican in Congress, including our Senators, and a frightening number of Republicans across the country.
A Rant on the Supreme Court
Here's the thing: the Democratic Party may be ineffective, disorganized and in a state of chaos, but when you live in a two-party political system, the Dems are the only horse we’ve got. There’s no other political party to organize a counterattack. If you are outraged at what’s happening and what will continue to happen, you need to get HIGHLY INVOLVED with your local Democrats. It’s actually far easier doing so than moving to a foreign country. Remember, the party is made up of members. You can be a member, work hard, and even become a leader. That’s what’s really needed in the Democrats right now, strong leadership. And that means YOU! Wait, you say! Aren’t Democrats basically useless? Think about it: if a few more folks had voted for Hillary Clinton in 2016, Trump would never have been able to appoint three Supreme Court justices, and we wouldn’t be in this position today. Do not doubt it: as long as we remain a democracy, elections matter.
Abortion, and the reality of human development
In a previous life, I spent a lot of time in classes with titles like Genetics, Human Evolution, and Vertebrate Embryology. The struggles of philosophers, ethicists, and biologists to decide when 'human life starts" are legendary and different people have come to different conclusions about this. This background seems relevant today because we now have 40 million women in the US population living in places where they have just lost access to reproductive health care. And, many more American women will if the GOP-Evangelical-Catholic cult of death and the Supreme Court they now control have anything to say about it.
